Paul J. Whitfield’s practice is focused on complex coverage analysis and defense of coverage disputes and bad faith claims in California and throughout the western United States.  He has extensive experience in analyzing coverage and counseling insurers in issues under commercial general liability (CGL), excess and umbrella, first-party property, personal lines (including automobile, uninsured/underinsured motorist, and homeowners), and specialty lines policies.

A seasoned litigator, Paul has prevailed in trial and appellate courts throughout California in coverage disputes, declaratory relief actions, bad faith claims, and liability defense matters.  Paul has experience in all aspects of litigation, including discovery and depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trial.

In addition to his coverage and bad faith experience, Paul has experience in liability defense, particularly in catastrophic injury, wrongful death, property damage, business disputes, and other complex matters.  He brings that experience to his coverage practice, in order to better advise his clients on a practical, commonsense approach to claims.
